Meeting Mr Helios

We finally got to meet Mr Helios today! Like Waverly, Helios hails from a special place in Australia. Missy feels a particular affinity with this little guy because she feels somewhat responsible for his being here, having bridged Helios' Mom and his breeder. For that, she thinks Helios is a bit like a Godson!

Oooh, are we a foursome now?

N-ah. I think Helios will be quite happy to go home to his loving MM, M and big brother, Herbie.

At Dino's

So Aunt HL had us over yesterday for a much belated housewarming. While the folks shared lots of fun and laughter in the kitchen decorating their Chocolate Strawberry Cake (which we had no share of because it was chocccolate), we were kept out of bounds to the kitchen (read: separated from Missy), a rather peculiar house rule set by a certain crank that was our Unck LP. That made my little sister, Waverly, cry.

“But…but...we always get to check out Missy in the kitchen!”

Here’s a step-by-step illustration of How To (Over) Decorate A Cake:

1. Half the cake to make two layers.  2. Whip up some fresh cream.  3. Spread whipped cream on bottom cake layer.  4. Line with strawberries followed by more whipped cream. 5. Top with remaining half of cake and frost all over with whipped cream. 6. Pipe little flowers all over cake. 7. Top with more strawberries and voila!  8. The cake turned out pretty decent, hey?

Just when Missy thought enough of food pictures…Oooh but doesn’t this remind you of myyy anniversary cake?

Here are the three wacky cooks:

(L-R: Aunt HL, Missy and Aunt Cel)

“We love your smile, Aunt HL!”

So we didn’t get any cake but Aunt HL did cook us a yummy dinner of macaroni, chicken and veggies......except it was two hours late!

“Gimme it! Gimme it! Gimme it!!!”

And here’s what the folks had. Unck LP cooked it!

Looks yummy! (Missy: It was yummy!)

Later on at night, Aunt HL helped us break another one of Unck LP’s nutty house rules when she let us into the TV room so we could snuggle with Missy as we were accustomed to. We really thought we were doing Unck LP a favour because we didn’t think he would like us to make scratches or break his glass door panels like Fee did!

Thanks for having us over, Aunt HL! We still love ya’, Unck LP!

Bone, Soup & Madeleines

We started the day with our teeth-cleansing routine gnawing on oxtails....

We didn't get to go on any outing this weekend because Missy was much too tired from a whole week of work. She's got to adjust her internal clock to get used to work hours after a restful three weeks. She did find some energy though to bake us one of our favourite snacks, Madeleines!

Since pandan seems to be all the rage now, Missy decided to make some pandan-flavoured Madeleines too! They're the ones in green, see?

Can you tell how soft and fluffy these are?

Milk and Madeleines for snacks!

Later on in the evening, we had Grandmama's wholesome Corn and Carrot Soup for dinner, with minced meat and rice.

Satisfied poo-poos,

Daisy & Waverly

Tagged: Seven Pawsome Things About Us

We've been tagged by our new friend, Ume, to list 7 pawsome things about ourselves. Here goes!

Daisy:

1.  I swim as gracefully as a swan! Watch me here.

2.  I'm proud as a peacock and stubborn as a mule, but hey, I'd like to think I've got character!

3.  I've got eyelashes as beautiful as the giraffe's (or so Missy thinks)!

4.  I've got really high IQ and EQ and would probably qualify for MENSA if I were folk.

5.  This amazes the folks but I love sour stuff like strawberries and kiwis but I hate bananas!

6.  I double up as a nurse to the folks when they are ill and I'm real good at it!

7.  I'm a wonderful sister to my mei mei (Chinese for little sister), Waverly!

Waverly:

1.  I love to perch atop the sofa and stack of cushions like a cat!

2.  I can twirl around like a ballerina and hop on my hinds like a baby 'roo!

3.  I flew solo on a 7-hr flight when I was only a teeny weeny 'lil pup of 4 months!

4.  I've got a tattoo on my ear! I'm hot!

5.  Look how beautifully I've turned out from the golliwog puppy I used to be!

Before

After

6.  I'm glued to Missy!

7.  I have a way with my jie jie (big sister in Chinese) despite her iciness and temper!

This is fun! We're tagging Dino, Zuiko, Leica, Kennie, Kyra, Luna and Fable!

Pawsomely Missy's,

Daisy & Waverly

Afternote: We had missed out Brandee and are glad Aunt HL included her. We hope it's not too late to tag Zaccheus now. We think this would be a good time to reminisce all the wonderful pawsomes that was Zaccheus.

A Day Out with Old Pals

We spent a wonderful morning with Aunt HL, Dino, Zuiko, Leica and Kennie. Boy was Jie Jie all too happy to see Leica, her greatest friend of all time!

That's Leica. Jie Jie was after her the whole morning I think she plain forgot about me! But I guess Leica and Jie Jie go back a long way, way before I was born!

A close-up of Leica the Chihuahua. Ain't she pretty?

Mind ya', she'd modeled for Guess one time!

That's Kennie, a Miniature Pinscher, Leica's 'lil sister. She's cutsie!

Here's a picture of Jie Jie set against the beautiful backdrop.

And here's me skipping happily!

Missy attempts a 'poetic' shot.

Oooh and this time, we saw a monkey for real!

Teatime!

Missy always keeps a promise! We had a lovely English tea today! Of course, we had to dress up as proper ladies do. Jie Jie had on her special handmade beaded pink ribbon, a pressie from our beloved Aunt Hazel, and I had on my pink pearl necklace.

The spread included Shortbread, Cranberry Cream Scones and Strawberry-Cinnamon Muffins.

♫♪♫ Heaven...we're in heaven, ♫♪♫

And our hearts beat so that we can hardly squeak.

And we seem to find the happiness we seek,

When we're sipping tea together you and me.

Kent Ridge Park

We checked out a different park today, Kent Ridge Park. It was quiet, peaceful, vast and had lots of greenery which Missy really loved!

Under the greenwood tree

Who loves to lie with me,

And turn his merry note

Unto the sweet bird's throat...

(As You Like It, Act II Sc V)

Jie Jie looking very pretty.

I try out a pose too....

"Yipes! I'm spooked, I'd better scoot!" "Me too! I'm outta here!"

Is that a monkey we spot?

Nay, 'tis Waverly merely.

Ant attack! Jie Jie is too sweet for

her own good. She's an ant magnet!

"Waverly, you're going in

the wrong direction!"

That's right, Jie Jie and I will find

our way together, side by side.

And this, of course, is Missy's

favourite shot of the day!

Cheerios,

Waverly

Still, 'The Glue'

Ever since I was little, Grandpapa nicknamed me 'The Glue' because, as the name implied, I stuck to Missy like superglue! Wherever Missy went about the house, I was sure to follow. I was her shadow! And whenever she went out, I would whimper and cry. (Read about the time when Missy left me behind here.)

Just when everyone thought I'm a little more grown up and independent these days, I went and did it again.

Today, Missy had to bring Jie Jie to the vet for a review. When she left with Jie Jie without me, I waaailed. Grandmama tried to coax me to sleep. I tried to repeatedly but got up each time and ran to check the gate for Missy, only to  return to Grandmama's side in disappointment and with more whimpers. I was so glad when they finally returned and was literally all over Missy. I love Missy! I can't help it!

My love-love!

Missy is cross with me for licking my paws non-stop. One of it is now red and sore and inflamed so Missy's had it dressed lest I go at it again.

At The Beach

As promised, Missy brought us to the beach today! Boy did we have fun! Here are some video clips and photos to show:

Missy really likes this picture. She thinks jie jie looked really beautiful here.

Jie jie really loves the water. She couldn't wait to jump in!

Can you tell how happy we were?

I did have a slight misadventure though. I forgot I wasn't half as good a swimmer as jie jie and before Missy could put on my life vest, I had jumped into the waters after jie jie to retrieve our frisbee. I got to the frisbee all right and paddled hard to get back to shore but I couldn't move an inch! This was me struggling in the waters:

Luckily, it didn't take long for Missy to realise after taking this shot that I was in trouble. She didn't even wait to set down her camera somewhere dry and rushed quickly, camera above her head in one hand, still fully-clothed and scooped me up with her free arm. Good thing the water was only chest high.

I didn't let the episode get to me though for I knew Missy would never let any harm come to me. She did promptly clasp on my life jacket after the rescue and then back into the waters I went!

I may not be as good a swimmer as jie jie (Missy thinks I look gangly when I swim!), but I'm definitely the better retriever!

Another successful retrieval mission! Did you catch jie jie taking a dive for the frisbee?

Here's jie jie looking very funny trying to dig up the frisbee embedded in the sand!

Still not the most confident of swimmers, I whimper as I swim!

Was jie jie rolling her eyes at me?

We sneaked a final shot before going off, on the Wall's Ice-Cream buggy! Of course, the ice-cream man wasn't around and no, we didn't get any ice-cream.

What great fun we had today! Missy's all tired out from bathing, blow-drying and brushing us. And then there's all that sand in the car.

(Missy: Wonder if  I might strike a deal with the govie for all that sand?)

Over and out,

Waverly

Thanks, Aunt Mary!

Today was Missy's last day at work and Aunt Mary made cupcakes for her farewell reception. They were as yummy as they were pretty! We had one too as generous Aunt Mary made sure there were plenty to go around. Now, if only Missy would let up on the photo-taking already......

Cloud Callout: Hurry up...

No work for Missy......Woohoo! Does that mean bonus time for us? The beach, the park, the great outdoors, here we come!

Nurse Daisy

Whenever one of the folks at home falls ill, jie jie becomes our little Florence Nightingale. She will keep company with the patient, unwavering in her attentiveness, never leaving the bedside no matter what activity takes place outside. Her most recent charge was Sissy S who was down with indigestion. Here's what Sissy S has to say:

"Nurse Daisy is the best company ever. She doesn't do very much but provides the best comfort and respite just by staying by my side. Highly recommended!!! <<< "

Missy Has Two Little Lambs...

Missy has two little lambs,

Little lambs, little lambs.

Missy has two little lambs,

Their fleece was soft as wool.

Missy always calls us her little lambs because poodles do look like lambs from certain angles and our coats are just as soft and cottony and ever-growing like the lamb's! However, as many similarities as we share, poodles and lambs are still quite distinct from each other.

Here's jie jie in one of her most

lamb-like moments.

And here's a real lamb!

Surely one can tell the difference?

Not the Japanese apparently. Read about how the Japanese mistook lambs for poodles here and enjoy a hearty laugh!
